The Mediterranean Coast Between Melilla and Al Hoceima, the Northern coast of Morocco has a splendid display of beautiful and unique landscapes, untouched by the masses. Hiking Trail Departing from Melilla in the morning, we will spend the whole day visiting the area and lapping up the beaches. We will stop for lunch on the way. The Rif People
If you take a trip around northern Morocco, you will get to know the locals’ way of life in this region known as the Rif. The everyday life for some locals, apart from the odd technological advances like an old Mercedes brought over from Germany, has hardly changed in many years, maybe even hundreds. You can still see women with their donkeys walking kilometres just to get water from the spring, and many of the traditional homes with a central courtyard are still used, and lit up by night with gas lamps, and the mules still plough the fields. In spite of this harsh way of life, people from the Rif are very friendly and hospitable.

Blend of Landscapes
The coast does not only offer the splendid beaches of Saidia, it also invites us to see the Moulouya River delta, a water bird nature reserve. Fishing is also a very important activity in this area, and you really can’t leave without trying the local fish. Any visit must also include the Zegzel gorges from the Moulouya River through the mountains. You can wander through the valley surrounded by lemon, orange and fig trees, as well as a wealth of other fruit trees and bushes, leading on to the cedar and fir trees as the path goes up the hillside |
