Portugal Vale do Douro

The Port wines of Oporto have made the city famous the world over, but their real territory lies several kilometres upriver, beside the tranquil waters of the Alto Douro. The Portuguese hillsides of the Vale do Douro are covered in vines and dotted with quintas, the traditional country houses that were home to the wine merchants. Apart from the wines, the best thing about this area is the tranquility, the sensation of peace and the feeling of harmony that make the valley a genuine world to itself.

Port Wine From Oporto

The English discovered the fruit of the vine in the Vale do Douro and, taken aback by its quality, they decided to import the wine. However, the wines deteriorated during the sea journeys so they decided to add alcohol to keep them well preserved. Without realising it, they had managed to create the delicious Port that is so popular today.
