The Dortmund-Ems Kanal Route

Enjoy a bicycle tour through Dortmund –Ems Kanal, a waterway that connects the city of Dortmund with the river Ems and the North Sea. The route passes through some beautiful landscapes alongside the canal, and as we continue on our way, we will come across the barges sailing to and from the sea up to the great European rivers.

The landscape changes considerably along the way as we get closer to the sea. The first villages we will see are farming communities set amidst the woods and wheat fields. As we get nearer to the coast, the woods give way to flat green meadows that have been reclaimed from the sea, where the cows and sheep graze gently among the canals.
